Bitcoin’s (BTC) recent surge in price has not gone unnoticed by the general population.

According to data from Google Trends (GOOGL), the search frequency for “bitcoin” has surged in recent weeks to the highest level since late February of 2018.

Google Trends

Google Trends utilizes an index-like approach to represent search interests that are relative to the highest point on the chart (100) for the given time and region. As of this week, the global search frequency for bitcoin increased to 36 — representing an almost 100% increase from the previous two weeks.

A similar surge has been happening on Baidu (BIDU), the world’s ninth-largest internet company by revenue that provides China with Google-like functionality. Back in April, bitcoin topped the list of hottest new keywords on the platform, a not-insignificant feat given the current regulatory controls on digital currencies in the country.
