According to the announcement, Competitive Play unlocks at level 25, after which players can complete 10 placement matches to obtain their initial skill rating between 1 and 5000, with higher levels indicating greater skill. This skill rating will be determined which tier players are placed — Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Master or Grandmaster.
Anyone who completes their placement matches during a season will receive a special spray and player icon. If you are placed within the Top 500 players on your platform (and in your region) at the end of the season, you’ll receive an extra player icon and animated spray.
Additionally, as players win competitive matches, they will earn “Competitive Points,” which can be spent on golden versions of their favorite weapons.
This launch of Competitive play comes roughly a month and a half before the launch of the new Overwatch League season. Season 14 is live right now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
