According to a recent announcement, Brave began 2018 with around 1 million active users and grew more than 450% throughout the year. Brave’s growth was largely driven by the performance of its desktop browser, which supports nearly all Chrome extensions, and features the new Brave Rewards system.
Brave also saw significant growth in its verified publishers, with over 28,000 to close out the year — up from 4,000. These publishers include major news outlets, YouTube channels and Twitch streamers.
Additionally, Brave inked multiple partnerships in 2018, including with Dow Jones Media Group, DuckDuckGo and HTC. Brave will be the default browser on the upcoming HTC Exodus, the world’s first native blockchain phone dedicated to decentralized applications.
While Brave’s browser and business showed impressive growth throughout 2018, its token took a major beating with the rest of the crypto market. BAT is currently down 82% in the past year to $0.140424, bringing the token to a $171.4 million market cap.
