Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD), the maker of Budweiser, is reportedly becoming very serious in regards to the esports industry.

According to a recent report by The Esports Observer, Anheuser-Busch has filed a trademark for the word mark “The Official Beer of Esports” with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

While there are no more specific details at this time, the news isn’t all that surprising as Bud Light recently became the official beer sponsor of Overwatch League (OWL).

At that time, Anheuser-Busch SVP João Chueiri stated, “Bud Light was one of the early adopters of esports with our Bud Light Esports All-Stars program years ago and we are excited to expand our footprint with the premier esports property in Overwatch League.”

Given the average age of the esports market, becoming the official beer of esports is undoubtedly a bet on the future growth and longevity of the industry.
