Coinbase, the popular cryptocurrency wallet and exchange, announced today that it is currently exploring adding five new cryptocurrencies to its trading products, including Cardano (ADA), Basic Attention Token (BAT), Stellar Lumens (XLM), Zcash (ZEC) and 0x (ZRX).

According to the announcement, there is no guarantee that any of the listed digital currencies will be added, but that their team is currently exploring the technical steps for each asset. Additionally, Coinbase provides a detailed FAQ in the announcement to back their reasoning for choosing the five projects as candidates.

This news comes just weeks after Coinbase announced plans to add Ethereum Classic (ETC) to its list of coins available for trading.

Interestingly, in the most recent announcement, the Coinbase team notes that the similarities of Ethereum Classic to already listed Ethereum (ETH) had made listing decision and process much simpler. Given that the new tokens are technically different, there is additional work needed to be done in order to properly move forward with the process.

Unlike Ethereum Classic, which is technically similar to Ethereum, these assets require additional work that necessitates contact with many external parties. To ensure that this news comes to you directly from us, we are publicly announcing our intentions.

Coinbase notes that customers might see indications via public-facing APIs that their team is currently conducting engineering work on the currencies. There is currently no indication of the timeline for potential listing for any of the projects.
