CryptoKitties, the popular collectors game built on the Ethereum blockchain that allows users to purchase, collect, breed and sell various types of virtual cats, has announced its first celebrity partner: NBA star Steph Curry.
In the announcement, the blockchain startup shared that it is auctioning off the first of three special edition “CurryKitties” created in honor of Curry. Additionally, as a form of viral marketing, the CryptoKitties will be conducting the “Curry Steph’s Favour” Giveaway, where the company plans on giving away 10 highly-coveted CryptoKitties.
Each CryptoKitty is unique and distributed automatically at a rate of one every 15 minutes via smart contracts. CryptoKitties are represented via a non-fungible ERC-721 token, and their value can appreciate or depreciate based on the market. The underlying value of CryptoKitties is driven by scarcity, as there are only 4 billion possible types of Kitties based on the 256-bit genome.
Hi! I’m Steph Fur Three! Number three is spec-cat-ular for me, not just because I wear it on my jersey, but because I love to shoot threes. Not all things come in threes, though! I’m actually only a two-time champion, a two-time MVP, and I was only a five-time All-Star. Can’t win ‘em all (yet)…

Developed originally by blockchain startup Axiom Zen, CryptoKitties has since spun off as a separate company following a Series A financing round of $12 million, led by Silicon Valley venture capital giant Andreessen Horowitz.
