In what may turn out to be a late April Fools joke, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk finally revealed his favorite cryptocurrency, and no, it’s not Bitcoin (BTC).

Musk’s current favorite is apparently Dogecoin (DOGE), the popular meme-based cryptocurrency that is currently valued at more than $317 million.

This revelation came after Dogecoin published a tweet for April Fools’ Day that called upon its community to vote on the next CEO of the decentralized project. The choices included Ethereum (ETH) creator Vitalik Buterin, Litecoin (LTC) creator Charlie Lee, Metal (MTL) co-founder Marshall Hayner and, of course, Musk.

The poll’s choices reflect ongoing jokes within the Dogecoin community, at least in the case of Musk. Several memes posted on Reddit last year show Musk holding DOGE with titles like “Elon Musk going with Dogecoin to the moon and beyond!!!!” and “Elon musk take us to the moon !!! up vote till he sees this!!!.

This isn’t Musk’s first run-in with Dogecoin on Twitter, as he previously called on the altcoin’s creator, Jackson Palmer, to help rid Twitter of crypto scam bots. Sadly, there hasn’t been any public follow-up since the original back-and-forth and the bots seem to be returning as the market recovers.
