In the report, Newzoo predicts that media rights, advertising, and sponsorship revenue will reach nearly $900 million, representing 82% of all industry revenues. This number begins to make sense when you consider the litany of sponsorship deals already inked through the first month and a half of the new year.
As we’ve previously reported, brands including Coca-Cola, Kia Motors, Alienware, T-Mobile, and Samsung have all signed on to sponsor esports league, tournament series, and individual organizations in 2019.
Newzoo anticipates that global viewers will total 453.8 million in 2019, representing a 15% increase from 2018. This figure speculates that roughly 201 million will include esports enthusiasts and 253 million occasional viewers.
The report indicates that North America will continue to drive revenues in the industry, with an anticipated $409.1 million in 2019. Interestingly, Newzoo sees China surpassing Western Europe’s revenues with $210.3 million, making it the second largest market in the world.
Taken together, the esports industry seems set for another blockbuster year as mainstream media and companies begin to look for exposure in the emerging space.
