When you first enter the world of cryptocurrency, it is likely that you will have questions. After all, there is a lot to understand. Thankfully, there are plenty of resources online to help you gain more insight and understanding as you go along.
One great resource for new investors are podcasts, which allow you to listen and learn even while doing something else. Below you will find detail into a handful of crypto themed podcasts. These podcasts all have a different theme and focus and provide access to broad areas of cryptocurrency knowledge.
Podcasts that help you understand the basics:
Invest Like the Best – Hash Power is a documentary style podcast hosted by Patrick O’Shaughnessy, CEO of O’Shaughnessy Asset Management. Hash Power helps the listener to understand the basics of cryptocurrency with a simple crash course that is broken into three segments. The series was created at the end of 2017, and because of its success, additional content was added to provide more depth. This series will help you understand the blockchain, peer to peer networks, cryptocurrency structure, and so much more.
“Hash Power is meant to be an introduction, but really, it is an invitation to explore this emerging world on your own. In the coming weeks, we will cover the technology, the power of decentralization, Bitcoin, Ethereum, ICOs, cryptography, and hashing. We will spend time with the leading active hedge fund managers in the field, and with outside investors who are both optimistic and skeptical. Episode one covers the big picture, and answers the question: what is blockchain and why might it significantly affect our world?”
The Tim Ferriss Show has been ranked as one of the top business podcasts on iTunes. Tim Ferriss focuses on interviewing successful people and evaluating their lifestyles. Most episodes don’t pertain to cryptocurrency, but one is a must listen. Episode # 244 is an interview with Nick Szabo, a man who coined the term “smart contract” and had a pivotal influence on the development of Bitcoin. This podcast episode is nearly two and a half hours, but worth the time. Szabo explains the fundamentals of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology that everyone should know. There are few people as seasoned and expert in the field as Nick Szabo; his varied education in computer science and law allows him to share a nuanced perspective that few others likely have.
Podcasts to provide some added depth:
Coin Talk is a podcast started in 2018 by Aaron Lammer and Jay Kang. They discuss cryptocurrency in a fun, lighthearted way. Lammer is also the host of other podcasts while Kang is a correspondent for Vice News. Hosted on Medium, the pair defines their podcast as the following quite simply.
“Coin Talk was borne out of our desire to share our mania with all the other nascent crypto-obsessives out there. We are not experts and nothing on this show should be seen as financial advice — we are just two curious friends who want to create an inviting, judgment-free community of listeners and guests who know much more about all this than we do.”
The interviews and discussions provided on their podcast enable the listener to have a better understanding of the complexities found within the crypto world. This includes the topics of the Blockchain, ICO’s, and privacy coins, among others. Episodes for this podcast are published about once a week. Fair warning: some of the episodes contain strong language.
Unchained is a podcast hosted by former Forbes Senior Editor, Laura Shin. Her content focuses on interviews with industry leaders in blockchain technology and cryptocurrency. Her long list of interviewees includes the founder of Zcash, the CEO of Kraken, and the head of the Ethereum Foundation. You are sure to get some great insights into the industry by listening. In interesting news, Shin recently got into a spat with the CEO of Ripple and the Ripple community when it was announced that she would be talking about the coin on her show. You can hear all about it in her episode addressing XRP. Shin doesn’t pull any punches with her questions.
