Civilization VI: Gathering Storm, the second expansion to Civ 6, is set to bring a number of new gameplay dynamics, in addition to 9 new leaders and 8 new civilizations.

Last week, the third new civilization for the much-anticipated expansion was revealed to be Canada, which will be led by Prime Minister Wilfrid Laurier.¬†Canada’s unique ability is “Four Faces of Peace,” which prevents the civ from declaring surprise wars on opponents or declaring war on city-states but ensures Canada itself is immune to surprise attacks.

Prior to that,¬†the second new civilization was revealed as the¬†MńĀori,¬†the seafaring indigenous Polynesian people of New Zealand. The most notable aspect of the new civ, which is led by¬†Kupe, is that their units begin on Ocean tiles and receive Science and Culture each turn prior to settling.

This week, it was revealed that the fourth new civilization will be the Inca, led by Pachacuti, the ruler responsible for transforming the Kingdom of Cuzco into the vast and well-structured Incan Empire. This addition makes us 3 for 3 when it comes to new civ predictions.

According to the announcement,¬†the Incan Empire is designed for isolationist players who prefer to build their internal economy over waging wars of expansion. The civ’s unique ability is Mit’a, which enables Incan citizens to work mountain tiles.

The Incan’s unique¬†tile improvement is the ‘Terrace Farm’, which can be placed on grassland, desert or plains hills and provides food. Adjacency bonuses are integral to the Terrace Farm as they provide additional food based on nearby mountains. And, if placed next to an Aqueduct or fresh water source, Terrace Farms provide additional production.

Internal trade is big for Pachacuti, as the leader’s unique ability, Qhapaw √Ďan, grants additional Food for each tile that exists within the borders of the original city. Once a player unlocks multiple trade routes between cities that contain multiple mountains, the bonuses stack up to cause a population boom.

Pachacuti also gains access to an earlier version of the new Mountain Tunnel improvement that allows units to traverse mountains for the first time in the long history of Civ games.

Finally, the Incan unique unit is the¬†Warak’aq, a medieval recon unit that can attack twice in a single turn, so long as all of its movement points have not been spent in that turn.

Gathering Storm¬†is set to release on February 14 for Windows. The new expansion will feature a number of new and improved game elements, including advanced technologies, engineering projects and the return of the World Congress. Notably,¬†Gathering Storm¬†will be the first game in the franchise to introduce a living world ecosystem that “showcases natural events that could enrich or challenge your growing empire.”
