Index Ventures recently announced the closing of a new $1.65 billion fund.

This marks Index Venture’s ninth venture fund and the fourth growth round since its founding in 1996. An approximate $1 billion will be invested in growth rounds for late-stage ventures, with an additional $650 million going to earlier rounds for smaller startups.

Over the years, Index Ventures has raised approximately $7.25 billion in funds, which have gone towards growing and establishing hundreds of startups. Index Ventures is currently one of the most prominent venture capital firms, with recent investments including Zuora, iZettle, Adyen and Dropbox.

In 2016, Index Ventures raised $1.25 billion, with $550 million going towards new ventures, and $700 million allocated towards promoting the growth of existing investments.

Martin Mignot, an Index Ventures investing partner, has stated in an interview with TechCrunch that the amount raised this year increased due to the fact that companies are raising capital earlier and quicker.

Index Ventures announced in their latest statement that the companies that will likely receive growth round capital from the latest fund include Slack, Bird, Aurora, Deliveroo, Robinhood, Revolut, Elastic, and Farfetch.
