Game developer Mojang wants to help you build high-quality traps in Minecraft.
In a recent blog post, Mojang’s Chris Priestman broke down the malicious art of ensnaring unsuspecting victims with cleverly designed traps.
“I love spending my weekends throwing pals down pits and blowing up TNT in their once-trusting faces,” proclaimed Priestman. “You can do almost anything you want in Minecraft, and sometimes, I just want to be a total jerk.”
Here are some trap ideas, as detailed by Priestman:
Spike Trap: a corridor with a chest at the end that lures in adventurers just to wreck them with spikes. While this works on mobs, the damage is low.
Lava Pit: place an inviting goods shop at the end of a red pathway…that turns out to be lava. Note, this requires lava.
Painting Trap: place a hidden room behind a painting, dig a pit and fill it with lava. Burglars will come by and fall straight into the lava.
Chest Bomb: build a fire chest with a hopper underneath. Then put a redstone comparator facing away from the hopper behind that with a block of TNT.
