The competitive gameplay revealed 7 of the 25 playable characters, including Baraka, Ronda Rousey’s Sonya Blade, Scorpion, Sub Zero, Raiden, Skarlet and new fighter Geras.
Expanding on the traditional character selection, Mortal Kombat 11 will allow players to create their own characters with numerous customization options.
The gameplay itself revealed notable changes to the mechanics. For instance, there is a new horizontal and vertical meter system that determines a player’s attack and defense options, respectively. There’s also a new “Fatal Blow” mechanic that gives players a powerful special attack when their health falls below 30% — this move is accompanied by a finishing move-type animation.
For defense, Mortal Kombat 11 introduces a “flawless block” system, which gives significant counter moves for perfectly timed defense.
All we currently know about the storyline is that it features time travel, Raiden is yet again dark and there’s a fate “worse than death.”
Mortal Kombat 11 will be released on April 23 for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and for PC through Steam and can be pre-ordered today.
