MyEtherWallet (MEW), a free, open-source, client-side interface for generating Ethereum wallets, announced today that it has officially launched MEWconnect, a secure mobile log-in app to access MEW accounts that store Ethereum (ETH) and ERC-20 tokens.

MEWconnect functions similarly to hardware products like Ledger or Trezor, in that it allows users to securely store and access their tokens, although MEWconnect is completely free.

“We believe this app will play a key role in wider cryptocurrency adoption, and we look forward to being a part of this transition,” MEW founder and CEO Kosala Hemachandra emphasized in a statement that accompanied the launch.

MEW originally launched a closed beta of MEWconnect earlier in the summer, which was meant to incentivize testers to identify bugs and request features for inclusion in the full platform.

The news comes shortly after MEW announced that it had partnered with Simplex, a fintech company that provides worldwide fraudless payment processing, to enable Ethereum credit card purchases.

According to MEW, the beta for the Android version will launch later this month.
