Pundi X (NPXS), a cryptocurrency startup known for developing a blockchain-based point of sale solution, announced this week that it has made the first-ever phone call on its new blockchain phone, the XPhone.

According to the announcement, the XPhone can function completely independent from a centralized mobile carrier by leveraging the Function X blockchain, a new public chain that enables secure and efficient data transfer.

In addition to the blockchain, Function X also consists of the Function X OS, Function X IPFS, FXTP Protocol and Function X Docker. The Function X OS is based on the Android OS 9.0, allowing for backward compatibility with the Android apps, according to the company.

The FXTP Protocol and Docker allow Function X to work on a different system to the internet’s HTTP protocol and each mobile device will act as a node in the decentralized system.

Pundi X now has a working model for the XPhone and completed the first call this week at the XBlockchain Summit at the Inaya Putri Bali. The XPhone OS is currently open to phone manufacturers for testing and the Function X blockchain is planned to be released in Q2 2019.
