The latest teaser trailer provides an extended view at Phobos, an extendable blade, shoulder-mounted rocket launchers, and the new Meat Hook modification for the Super Shotgun. Players will be paired against re-imagined classic Doom demons, including Arachnotron and Pain Elemental, within their battles on Phobos, Earth and beyond.
Standing as a sequel to Doom, the 2016 reboot of the classic first-person shooter, developers describe this installment as a “pure, unfiltered, action FPS experience.”
The gameplay looks similar to its predecessor as players are challenged by fast-paced gunfights against hordes of enemies. Though, twice as many variants of demons will be featured in the latest installment, based on early footage alone. Mobility is greatly expanded, which allows players to dodge oncoming fire quickly, or swing across the map with a grappling hook if unlocked. The new power-ups are set to permanently enhance player abilities, rather than act as simple boosts.
The recently confirmed ‘Invasion Mode’ allows players to assume the role of a demon before being propelled into the world of another player, where they may hunt down the host as they venture through their single-player campaign on their own, or with a slew of friends.
There is no confirmed release date for Doom Eternal as of now, though players may expect the title sometime in 2019 on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
