Nine Dots Studio’s upcoming medieval fantasy RPG Outward, which is set to release in March 2019, recently dropped a gameplay overview trailer via IGN.

The largely under-the-radar title takes a unique approach to the traditional RPG format, which commonly features heroes with extraordinary powers. With Outward, players take on the role of ordinary individuals thrown into a world of hazardous environmental conditions and threatening creatures.

As a living person, players must not only do battle but also protect themselves against infectious diseases, make sure they get enough sleep and stay hydrated. Nine Dots Studio notes that this is part of an effort to offer a truly immersive gaming experience that limits the number of instances that remind players that they’re playing a game.

“In order to survive in the dazzling yet deadly world of Aurai, you’ll have to be cunning, clever and prepared. Devise diverse strategies to defeat your foes and don’t neglect your basic needs, sharing your journey with a friend, locally or online,” Nine Dots Studio shares.

Outward is currently available for pre-order on Amazon for both Xbox One and PS4, and will be available via early-access on Steam for PC on February 12.
